SWOSAR was originally organized in 1996 as an arm of the Miami Valley Urban Search And Rescue Team (FEMA Ohio Task Force One, OHTF-1). SWOSAR has evolved into a highly skilled volunteer organization. The purpose is to provide quality trained K-9 teams and ground support to assist governmental agencies in the search for lost persons and for natural or manmade disasters.

SWOSAR members have a mix of professional backgrounds that include fire, law enforcement, and civilian. We have mutual aid agreements with other Ohio search teams to provide K-9 teams and ground support when requested.

SWOSAR can only be activated by official request from governmental agencies such as Police and Fire Departments, Ohio EMA, and FEMA. Our services are provided free of charge.

SWOSAR is a non-profit corporation registered with the State of Ohio and is listed as a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with the IRS.
